Lunch With Kathy Evans
October 15, 2024, 1:00 pm Eastern time We'll meet via Zoom. Bring your questions and a sandwich! The mission of the Rhinebeck Writers Retreat is to provide a sanctuary for musical theatre writers to develop their musicals and to promote awareness for the creation of this uniquely American art form. CA79's Lunch With series allows us to learn more about a classmate we might know a little—or not at all. Rhinebeck Writers Retreat website From our Newsletter: In 2011 Kathy left her position as executive director of the National Alliance for Musical Theatre to establish Rhinebeck Writers. When she left NAMT, Kathy remarked, "There are dozens of these retreats for playwrights, novelists and artists, but very few specifically for musical theatre writers — especially one where they only have to focus on their work and not work towards a showcase or a workshop." The sanctuary that Rhinebeck Writers provides is a bucolic haven in the Hudson Valley about two hours north of New York City. The writers’ food, housing, pianos, supplies, and travel are covered. Each writer also receives a small stipend. For one busy week, the writers focus on collaborating, (re)writing, and even recording their work. Over the last dozen years, Rhinebeck Writers has supported more than 100 teams of writers. Some of the musicals supported and workshopped there have gone on to win awards and have seen performances at venues including New York’s Shakespeare in the Park, La Jolla Playhouse, the Dallas Theatre Center, and London’s West End. If you’re interested in theater, the arts, arts management, artistic creation, or one person’s role in creating and running a small nonprofit, you’ll want to join us! Questions about our programs?
